It is believed that the custom of making jack-o’-lanterns at Hallowe’en time began in Ireland. In the 19th century, “turnips or mangel wurzels, hollowed out to act as lanterns and often carved with grotesque faces,” were used on Halloween in parts of Ireland and the Scottish Highlands.

Now, with only 13 days til’ Hallowe’en it’s time to see your pumpkins! Spend a festive time with the family carving jack-o’-lanterns.

Discovery K12 Origami

We’ve added 36 weeks of Origami to our curriculum. Students can now learn about Origami, the art of paper folding. Create some amazing paper sculptures over the summer or integrate it into your weekly lessons! Doing Origami can help students with critical thinking, problem solving, and building creativity.

You can view all the Origami lessons here (you must be logged in to access!)

Those with existing Student Accounts, can update the grade level when ready to advance under the Help menu.

If you have a Parent/Teacher Account, you will also need to update the grade level under the My Students area by clicking the Edit Student link.
