| Xaden is furious that Sgaeyl has been ensnared, noting the blood dripping upon her scales. Berwyn walks forward to Panchek, who has supposedly been a traitor this entire time. Berwyn stands between Xaden and Sgaeyl, and Xaden cannot kill him because of the bond they share. And now Berwyn has a sibling in Panchek that he can use against Xaden. Xaden decides he cannot let Sgaeyl die.
Before the venin power completely overtakes him, Xaden’s sends his shadows out over the city, ending every wyvern in the air and on the ground, and releases Sgaeyl from her net. He then sends his shadows over to Violet, knocking Theophanie over and allowing her to kill the maven.
Xaden is no longer an initiate now, and has become full venin. He tells Sgaeyl that “she’ll help” and that someone owes him a favor. Sgaeyl says that Tairn will never let him near Violet, especially because she is in a vulnerable state. Sgaeyl says they have completed the wards, but they extend no farther than Draithus. He begs Sgaeyl to persuade Tairn. Sgaeyl says she will ask, and that “her” decision will determine their fate. He then flies away. |
