Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail- or Violence as Xaden calls her was supposed to join the Scribe Quadrant among books and history. But now, the commanding general also known as her mother has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. The place is known as Basgiath War College- where death is only a wrong step, look, or tone away. But when your smaller and brittle than everyone else it makes things much, much harder-especially when you have a well known enemy always staring you down for more than just that reason. Xaden Riorson. The most powerful and ruthless wing leader in the Riders quadrants- Violets wingleader. Or is he more than that? Violet and Xaden had always had tension(not always the bad kind)especially since their dragons are mates-to which that makes it pretty hard to hate each other when you live inside of each other mind. After Violet had found out Xaden had been lying-or well- not telling every part of the story, she has now come to the conclusion of not trusting him. Recently, after being stabbed with a poison knife and almost dying, Violet has discovered her brother Brennan who was supposedly killed 6 years ago is alive-which is a complete shock considering the last time she saw him she was 14. So many questions, so many lies-secrets, so many hidden truths. Did Mira know this whole time? Why did Xaden keep this all from Violet? What has Violet done? Brennan is alive. Was he really lying to protect her, or is there something deeper behind the Basgiath walls we don't know? Brennan loves Violet, and whether he or she knows it his words and Mira's (Violets sister) have kept Violet alive during her time at Basgiath. They may have kept things from Violet, but I think deep down their reasons were valid.
