| I work at the mall. Or at least I'm working at the mall for the next two weeks. One of the things I like about this mall is all the stores and restaurants we have. Among all the restaurants one stands out though. Panda Express. Panda Express offers everything we Americans look for in fast food and Chinese food. It's a country wide franchise so there's a standard each store is being held to. It doesn't advertise itself as any kind of Asian food specifically so in America we just accept it under the umbrella of "Chinese food". It's all standardised so you know you're getting the same quality at every store. When you go to a regular family owned Chinese restaurant you may be supporting a sweet family and encouraging local businesses but it won't taste like Panda Express. It's the same thing with any fast food restaurant that dominates it's league. If you go to a local burger shop it won't taste like McDonald's. Unfortunately for America we love everything to be standardized in this way. So is Panda the villain? Of course not! Panda Express is one of the smartest busness models out there. We love eating there, they make tons of money because we refuse to eat orange chicken that isn't there's and everyone is happy! (Besides that sweet Chinese family I mentioned earlier) |
